“Oh I Thought Those Were Breakfast Treats”

The Family Vacation

Half of my family lives in London, so whenever a cousin wants to visit me from the U.K I get super excited! My cousin, Lola, came to stay with us for a week. I always wondered what the stigma on marijuana was in Europe, she explained it as similar to the US where it is accepted in some places and not so much in others. But mentioned our cannabis being much stronger than theirs. We smoked of course, but I had class so left her at the apartment for most of the day.


Every time I would come back from class she would be sleeping. For the first couple of days I thought she was just jet lagged since London was 5 hours ahead of us. But by day 4, I started to get worried. “Lola, are you just going to sleep all day”, I asked with worry. She responded, “I don’t know why I feel this tired”. She would get up for a little to talk to me and smoke a blunt with me before going back to sleep.


At first I didn’t think to tell her about the Rice Krispy Treats I had recently baked. But when it was time for me to make another tray of Green Goddess Fruity Pebble Krispies, she became inquisitive about what I was in the kitchen whipping up. I explained it was cannabis in food form, but that the feeling was way stronger than smoking the cannabis. She pointed to the tray of Green Goddess Cinnamon Crunch Krispies I had on the counter and asked if that had cannabis in it too. I looked at her and said, “Of course! Yes! Please don’t tell me you have indulged in these”. She followed by saying, “Uh yes, I thought those were breakfast treats”. Which explains why my poor cousin had slept her entire trip away. Now I know the importance of labeling food when cooking with cannabis.
